JCoS Board joins celebrations for Glasgow's 850th Anniversary

On 26 October 2025, members of the Jewish Council of Scotland were honoured to join with other guests and visitors to honour Glasgow’s recognition as a European City of Jewish Heritage.

The event, held at Garnethill Synagogue also formed part of Glasgow’s 850th anniversary celebrations marking the city’s diverse and rich culture, and guests were entertained by the immaculate sounds of Lev Atlas, Michael Barnett, & Aiden Macdonald – of the Royal Conservatiore of Scotland, and Eddie Binnie & friends.

Speeches were given by host Susan Siegel, Chair of Garnethill Hebrew Congregation, Timothy Lovat, Chair of the Jewish Council of Scotland, Henry Lovat, President of the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, Carmen McPherson, Director of the Jewish Council of Scotland, and Rabbi Moshe Rubin, Senior Rabbi of Scotland.

This momentous occasion reflected on the growth of Jewish life in Glasgow from the founding of the first synagogue in 1821, to present day, and the many prominent individuals that have been part of this incredible contribution to Scottish Jewry.
