This appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Jewish community in Scotland, and the formation of the Jewish Council of Scotland marks a new era of collaboration and community for Scottish Jewry.
Under Carmen’s leadership, JCoS will work to:
· Strengthen connections between Jewish communities across Scotland
· Build on existing partnerships with government, interfaith, and civic organisations
· Expand educational and cultural engagement
· Advocate for Jewish communal interests and concerns
The Jewish Council of Scotland (JCoS) has been created by the former Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (SCoJeC) together with Glasgow Jewish Representative Council (GJRC) and the Edinburgh Jewish Organisations Group (EJOG) to form a united, democratically-elected representative body for Scotland’s Jewish community.
JCoS provides a national voice on issues affecting Jews across Scotland, including education, justice, equality, and faith relations — while maintaining close cooperation with UK-wide Jewish bodies. It works to promote good relations, provide information and advocacy, and support Jewish individuals and communities throughout Scotland.
JCoS’ membership encompasses Jewish communities in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Tayside & Fife, and elsewhere across Scotland, as well as Jewish students, Israelis in Scotland, and other national Jewish organisations in Scotland.
